Hyundai has taken the wraps off the new Stargazer in Indonesia, giving us a first look at the carmaker’s latest three-row minivan with affordable pricing and plenty of room for a large family.

While Hyundai hasn’t published the full photo gallery of the Stargazer yet, the photos on their official website give us a great idea of the exterior and the interior design. The model adopts a rather traditional MPV silhouette with an aerodynamic windshield and a relatively high ground clearance. At the front, the full-width LED bar is a clear reference to the larger Hyundai Staria, while the lower part of the split headlights is quite large taking up most of the front bumper.

On the profile, we find squared-off wheel arches, modern alloy wheels with a diameter of 15-inches or 16-inches, and sharp surfacing. At the back the triangular-shaped taillights look similar to the ones on the Hyundai Bayon, visually merging with the rear windshield and being interconnected via an LED bar. Other features include a black roof, an aluminum-style diffuser, and chrome door handles.

Inside, the Stargazer has six or seven seats arranged in three rows. Cargo space is 200 lt (7.1 cubic feet) behind the third row or 585 lt (20.7 cubic feet) behind the second row. We can also see plenty of cupholders and armrests, and tables mounted on the seatbacks, at least in the pictured six-seater version.

The dashboard and the steering wheel look similar to other models from the Hyundai lineup. There’s an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen and the instrument cluster gets a 4.2-inch screen among the dials.

Depending on the trim level (Active, Trend, Style, Prime), the equipment can include a wireless charging pad, plus the Hyundai SmartSense ADAS suite with systems like Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Collision-avoidance Assist, and Rear Cross-traffic Collision-avoidance Assist.

The minivan measures 4,460 mm (175.6 inches) long, 1,780 mm (70.1 inches) wide, and 1,690 mm (66.5 inches) tall, with a wheelbase of 2,780 mm (109.4 inches). Those figures are very similar to the Kia Carens minivan, which is using the same architecture as a stretched version of the one found in the recently facelifted Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos SUVs.

The Hyundai Stargazer is available with a single powertrain option, a naturally-aspirated 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine producing 113 hp (85 kW / 115 PS) and 144 Nm (106.2 lb-ft) of torque. Power is transmitted to the front axle through either a six-speed manual or an automatic CVT.

The new Hyundai Stargazer will be locally produced in Indonesia, where the company has already started accepting orders. Pricing starts from 243,300,000 Indonesian rupiahs ($16,224) for the entry-level manual, all the way up to 307,100,000 Indonesian rupiahs ($20,478) for the flagship trim with the automatic gearbox. Rivals in the affordable MPV segment include the likes of the Toyota Avanza, the Mitsubishi Xpander, and the Suzuki Ertiga.
