The sixth-generation Honda CR-V will debut this summer. Ahead of its reveal, the automaker is teasing a fresh image of the model and billing it as "rugged" and "sophisticated".

Small design cues are seen in the two mages supplied by the company as a preview of what can be expected when the new model is shown in full.

The first image, which features the 2023 Honda CR-V's face, shows off a black grille featuring a hexagonal design that has a Honda emblem at its center. Slim headlights with a narrow daytime running light sit on the corners, their housing meshed with the black grille surround.

The lower half of the front features a number of sensors, silver vent covers, and additional black surface area.

Second and third photos provided by the automaker shows off a new lighting signature for the automaker that sees the red of the light extend onto the tailgate in a curved pattern.

Those taillights extend up the side of the body of the CR-V, extending up near the roof in Volvo XC-90-like fashion.

In addition to new looks, Honda promises that the 2023 CR-V will have a "more advanced hybrid system" that delivers a "sportier driving experience and more capability".

Experts suggest that the interior of the new CR-V could borrow from the looks of the 2022 Honda Civic. The Civic comes with either a 7- or 9-inch infotainment touch screen mounted at the top center of the dashboard. Below, mesh grilles disguise each individual vent while providing a unique aesthetic.

The CR-V could also get the Civic's standard or availability available powertrains. The base model Civic has a 158-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that offers up 138 pound-feet (lb-ft) of torque.

For the 2022 model year, higher-end version of the Civic comes with a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that offers up 180 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque.

It is expected that the CR-V will retain its two-row, five-person seating capacity. It will continue to slot above the HR-V and below the Passport and Pilot in the company's lineup.

Honda manufacturing has been limited by supply shortages in 2022. Just 76,579 examples of the current-generation CR-V have been sold this year. That's down 44 percent over 2021 levels.

The CR-V's chief rival is the Toyota RAV4. Toyota has fared slightly better than Honda in the supply department, selling just over 100,000 RAV4s in the first quarter of 2021. Traditionally, the CR-V comes in second place in the number of SUVs sold annually in the U.S., behind the RAV4.
