Radiotherapy services at Mater Dei Hospital have been temporarily suspended following technical damage to linear accelerators at the oncology department. 

In a statement, the Health Ministry said an inquiry board has been set up to establish what caused the damage. 

The Ministry said from preliminary investigations, it appears that the issue comes from the system to cool the machines. The damage to the machines is repairable and is already underway. 

“The hospital administration is working with patients to find an alternative,” the Ministry said.

The Ministry said that it apologises for the inconvenience caused and has committed itself to find alternatives for patients.
