On this episode of 1K Dream Room, host Will Taylor (@brightbazaar) heads to Queens to give Calvin’s plain bedroom a modern revival with a budget of $1,000 and just one day to finish. Calvin wants to add more personality, comfort, and hominess with a modern twist to his sparsely-decorated bedroom. The bedroom’s clean, straight walls, large windows, and minimal features lend themselves well to achieving the contemporary, cool, yet cozy look Calvin desires.
Will begins adding some warmth to the bedroom with the addition of a gray wool area rug followed by a pair of simple, lightweight linen curtains, which he says can make any room feel homier and less sterile.
When decorating a room with a monochromatic color palette, Will suggests incorporating elements with graphic patterns, like the black and white grid duvet set he arranged on Calvin’s bed, so the room doesn’t feel one-dimensional. Additionally, two white solid wood nightstands on each side of the bed help give the room a sleek layout.
With the room’s clean and streamlined aesthetic in mind, Will installs some white floating shelves and accessorizes them with a series of small monochrome sculptures. For a finishing touch, Will places a mass cane floor plant next to a white 5-drawer dresser, which he styles with various decorative and sentimental objects.
When the time comes for the big unveiling, Calvin is beyond thrilled with the room upgrade and is particularly fond of the warm, neutral color scheme and the coffee mug with his first initial on it. All in all, Calvin loves his bedroom’s new warm, neutral color palette and modern yet cozy accent features. This contemporary and comfortable bedroom takes full advantage of the natural light and linear structure and will definitely help Calvin kick back and relax.
